In recent years, the trend has been driven by both nostalgia for the filmic look and the desire to differentiate digital footage in an era where high-definition and ultra-high-definition clarity are the norms.

The resurgence of interest in achieving a 'film look' in digital photo-/cinematography has significantly contributed to the renewed popularity of mist filtersAs digital cameras have become more prevalent, there has been a parallel increase in the use of techniques and tools that mimic the aesthetic qualities of traditional film

In response to such trends and demands, Marumi released two types of Mist filters, increasing the filter line-up in the convenient Magnetic Slim Series: Black Mist and White Powder Mist.

Features- Similarities and Differences

Black Mist and White Mist filters are both types of diffusion filters used in photography and cinematography to achieve certain visual effects, by evoking unique emotions in the audience.
They are designed to soften the image, lower contrast, and create a specific atmosphere in the footage.
Both types of filters can be used to reduce the appearance of blemishes on the skin in portraits or to create a specific mood in a scene.
The choice between a Black Mist or White Mist filter will depend on the specific look you are trying to achieve and how much you want to affect the contrast, color saturation, and detail in the image.

How to combine Mist Filters in Magnetic Slim

>The tree diagram below illustrates the versatile combinations possible with Mist filters, particularly focusing on how they can be paired with various adapters from a magnetic base. It showcases the flexibility of these filters in different setups.
At the root, we have the magnetic base, which serves as the foundation for multiple adapter options. From this base, photographers can choose between the Magnetic Slim Lens Adapter or other compatible adapters.

Construction of Mist Filters

Black Mist White Powder Mist
Black Mist achieves effect through the use of very fine, black particles embedded between the glasses. These particles are designed to scatter the light as it passes through the filter, softening the image and lowering contrast while maintaining the integrity of contrast in the entire image.

The white particles within the glasses produce flares and soft gradations that scatter light more aggressively than the Black Mist, lifting shadows and a softer contrast. Depending on the light source's position and intensity, it will resemble shooting with an old lens.
